What Makes Handmade Leather Shoes Special? Interview N1

The value of handmade leather shoes

Are handmade leather shoes really worth the price? There’s no better way to understand this than hearing from someone who actually wears them. In this interview, Nikita shares his firsthand experience with handcrafted shoes—how it feels, how it ages, various styles and why well-made shoes can be a smart long-term investment.

"I really have a soft spot for handmade leather shoes there's just something so down to earth and genuine about them from the minute you start wearing them. The way the leather starts to mould to your feet, rather than the other way around, really makes a big difference, it's a comfort that builds up over the first few wears and just gets better from there. I've had the pleasure of wearing loafers, oxfords, and boots, and I'm happy to say that every single one of them has aged amazingly well, without ever looking like it's going to fall apart on me.

The cost, I reckon, is actually pretty fair, especially when you consider all the thought and care that goes into crafting each pair. I mean, there's no expense spared with the construction, from the hand-stitched soles to the way they're built up in layers, and on top of that you've got top quality leather.

All of that just serves to make the thing last for years, and you can actually have it repaired too, I've resoled one pair of shoes and it's still going strong. Plus, it's not like you're spending a fortune on a new pair every few months, one well-made pair can easily last for years, and that's got to be worth saving a few quid in the long run."
